Tragic I-75 Crash in Macon Claims Lives of Woman and Child; Haley Lancaster Identified as Victim

A devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 South in Macon has claimed the lives of a woman and a child, sending shockwaves through the community. The collision occurred Wednesday afternoon near Sardis Church Road and involved four vehicles, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Leon Jones, with the Bibb County Coroner’s Office, confirmed that both victims died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. One of the victims has been identified as Haley Lancaster. Authorities have not yet released the name of the child pending notification of family members.

In addition to the two fatalities, multiple people were injured. Officials said two victims were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

The Georgia State Patrol is leading the investigation to determine what caused the crash. As of now, no further details have been released regarding possible contributing factors.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reported the crash around 4:30 p.m., noting that three southbound lanes were temporarily closed. The roadway was estimated to reopen around 6:30 p.m., though delays persisted during the evening commute.

This remains an ongoing investigation as the Macon community mourns the tragic loss.
